Principal Cornet
Harry Porthouse
Harry is Principal Cornet of Leyland Band and, despite his young age, already has extensive experience at the British Open, National Finals and European Championships. An RNCM student and 2025 Conn Selmer Europe Scholar, he continues a family connection with Leyland, following his father Ian, who held the Principal Cornet seat from 1984–1988.

Andrew Lofthouse
Known to many as Lofty, Andrew brings a wealth of professional experience to Leyland. A former Principal Trumpet of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force and Lead Trumpet with the RAF Squadronaires, his career has also included conducting Marsden Silver Prize Band and winning the Norwegian National Championships with Eikanger-Bjørsvik.

Rebecca Doyle
Rebecca has been Principal Horn of Leyland Band since 2011. A former National Youth Brass Band player and First Class Honours graduate of the RNCM, she was also awarded the prestigious Harry Mortimer Brass Student of the Year. A qualified music teacher, Rebecca is also a highly sought-after brass tutor.

Julian Bayley
A First Class Honours graduate of the RNCM, Julian studied under renowned euphonium soloist David Thornton before continuing his training in specialist instrumental teaching. Originally from Saddleworth, he began playing with Dobcross Band and is also a member of the Salford Quays Brass Quartet.

Simon Moore
Simon brings a wealth of professional experience to Leyland following a distinguished 31-year career as a musician in the British Army. Formerly Principal Trombone of the Band of the Grenadier Guards, he has performed at some of the country’s most significant national occasions, including the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the Coronation Concert and Trooping the Colour.

Chris Doran
Chris joined Leyland Band in 2002, becoming Principal Tuba later that year. A Lancashire native, he was inspired to take up banding after seeing Leyland perform under Richard Evans. His highlights with the band include winning the National Finals in 2005 and receiving the Best Soloist Award at the 2008 Grand Shield.
Bill Carter
Bill joined Leyland Band in 1987 and has occupied all four seats in the tuba section during his long association with the band. A former Principal Tuba and Harry Mortimer Prize winner, his highlights with Leyland include winning the British Open in 1994 and the National Championships in 2005.
