7th Place at the 2016 British Open Brass Band Championships

Peter Graham’s excellent crowd and player pleaser of a piece “The Triumph Of Time” kept a packed Birmingham Symphony Hall enthralled on a high class day of competition in the 2016 British Open.

Leyland performed 14th of the 19 bands,ย and just missed out on an order of merit position, being awarded 7th place overall. Our congratulations go to the winners the Cory Band, and Brighouse & Rastrick Band who preceded Leyland in the draw and were runners up.

Leyland led the North West challenge with their 7th place result (following last year’s 4th place), with the Fairey Band close behind in 9th andย the Foden’s Band in 17th place.

Musical Director Thomas Wyss produced another fantastic reading, drawing musical excitement and colour from Perter Graham’s score, built on his meticulous preparation. In what is generally accepted to be the highest class competition of the brass band year, any slips however minor made all the difference, detracting from the excellent overall performance.
