Don’t miss the band performing their Brass In Concert program before they head to the 2015 Brass in Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead.
MD Thomas Wyss will put the finishing touches to the program at Sunderland Minster on the 14th November at 19:00. The concert will also feature Houghton Area Youth Band who will be working with tutors from the band during the day and will join forces with the Leyland Band and all other participants in the day’s workshops for a massed bands finale!
The concert will be of significance for two of our players , James McLeod on Euphonium and Percussionist Anne Challinor who both hail from the North East.
James will be reacquainted with his boyhood band, Houghton Area Youth Band, leading Saturday workshops before Leyland and HAYB join forces in a special concert in Sunderland Minster – see more here. James is also the band’s featured soloist in the Brass in Concert program, accompanied by the band in way we can confidently say has never been seen at BIC before!
Drawn 1st to play at Brass in Concert this year, Leyland’s program will feature two new arrangements by John Doyle and original work the band has commissioned up and coming Welsh composer, Christopher Bond to write called “Sprites & Flares”.
The weekend won’t end in Gateshead for the band, as after the championship performance, it will be back on the coach to Workington for an afternoon concert in support of Prostate Cancer charities.
Here is a clip of the band performing Paul Lovatt Coopers ”Legend of Blue Dragon” at last years Brass In Concert Championships.
