Leyland’s concert appearance in Workington (23/10/16) in aid of Prostate Cancer UK raised a fantastic £2760.00 for the charity.

The band was conducted on this occasion by our President, Richard Evans. Organiser Robert Hardon was delighted with the outcome, as well as thrilled with the band’s performance. Leyland performed Robert’s favourite march, “On The Quarter Deck” which Richard Evans gave his trademark ‘swagger’ treatment, and another highlight was a wonderfully poignant rendition of “Nimrod”. The large audience were brought to their feet by the finale, the “1812 Overture”, and the matinee concert in St John’s Church was brought to an upbeat close with the encore, “The Waltonian” arranged by Leyland’s Musical Director, Thomas Wyss.

Happy Birthday!

Richard who turned 82, today (26/10/16) continues to deliver consummate professional performances and be an inspiration to the band, and all at Leyland wish him very many happy returns.

Encouraged by Robert, the band struck an impromptu version of Happy Birthday mid concert, as Richard was presented with birthday gift by Margaret Younghusband.
