James to lead tutors at EABBA

Leyland’s tutors, led by James McLeod head to Norwich on 16th October for a day of musical fun and mentoring of over 50 eager participants. Joined by principal cornet Iain Culross, Leyland’s 1st horn Dave Altham, soprano Joe Martin and Eb bass Chris Doran, the East Anglian Brass Band Association (EABBA)training day will be a great event for all.

James has chosen a an eclectic mix of interesting and challenging pieces to take the participants through their paces:-

The Wizard – George Allen – the march Leyland are renowned for performing at the Whit Friday festivals.

Love Divine – arr. Iain McKnight – a classic hymn given a wonderful setting by Leyland’s ex Eb bass player.

Moorside Suite – Holst – sumptuous writing and staple repertoire for many development bands belies the musical challenges.

Behold the Power of God – Chris Bond – original writing by one the most interesting young composers.

Bring Him Home – Schonberg – provides Iain Culross to demonstrate his amazing control in this classic of musical theatre.

Leyland tutors are also joined by trombone player Matt Brown. The day long course will end with a short concert performed by the trainees under the direction of James, with the other tutors taking seats in the band.
