Gary has been a member of band’s cornet section since 1981, making his debut with Leyland that year, at the last ever British Open to be held at Belle Vue (Manchester).

Prior to joining Leyland, he played for the Lostock Hall Memorial Band where he had begun playing at the age of nine, and was also a member of the Lancashire Youth Band and Lancashire Youth Select Band.

As well as performing, Gary went on to earn BA Honours degree in Band Studies from the University of Sheffield which has given him a greater insight and knowledge about all aspects of delivering first rate band experiences. During this time, he began an interest in arranging music for band, and as well as playing, he is now established as one Leyland’s excellent in house arrangers, having had many works recorded by the band, and published.
