Leyland’s solo euphonium will lead brass workshop as the Houghton Area Youth Band link up with Leyland

Hetton Work Shop

Tutors from Leyland Band will be hosted by Houghton Area Youth Band on Saturday the 14th November. They will hold a masterclass from 9am-2.30pm at Hetton Lyons Primary School before an evening concert in Sunderland Minster featuring the Houghton Area Youth Band, Leyland Band and the massed bands of all participants in the masterclasses. There are no age restrictions for the workshop so all are welcome. Applications can be made by completing the application form and sending to houghtonareayouth@yahoo.co.uk. The workshop costs £5 and that includes lunch and a ticket to the evening concert in Sunderland Minster.

Led by Flugel star John Doyle and Besson Euphonium Artist James McLeod, 5 members of the Leyland Band will help prepare the attendees for the evening concert along with sharing their expertise and experience. It is a very personal event for James McLeod as he was a member of the Houghton Area Youth Band when growing up.

“It will be a fantastic experience for me to go back to the band that helped me so much growing up. We hope that there will be attendees from other youth bands and adult bands that will attend and the 5 of us are really looking forward to working with everyone there. Some of my fondest memories of playing are with Houghton Area Youth Band so I can’t wait for what promises to be a great day of music making”

Joining John and James will be Rebecca Doyle (tenor horn) John Stevens (trombone) and Ben Thomas (percussion).

The evening concert will also feature the Leyland Band’s Brass in Concert programme.
