Leyland are delighted to announce that we will be joined by the Lancashire Youth Brass Band in concert on the 15th February 2016. LYBB will be featured in Leyland’s fantastic “Romance In Brass” concert which marks the start of the band’s 2016 Matinee Concert Series.
Lancashire Youth Brass Band (LYBB) was formed in 1960 with the aim of offering young musicians throughout Lancashire the opportunity to rehearse and perform a wide range of repertoire under the direction of experienced tutors and conductors.
Players are selected by audition from not only Lancashire schools and colleges but across the North West, and participate in a schedule of rehearsals, concerts, short courses and overseas concert tours in the summer vacation. Members of the band often progress into Britain’s finest bands and many continue to study music in higher education, leading to musical careers. Many of Leyland’s players were members of LYBB in their youth, and are looking forward to inspiring today’s young players in this special concert which we hope will lead to closer collaboration between Lancashire’s finest.
Helen Minshall took over the role of Musical Director of the band in September 2015, and is concentrating on its development and improvement. Plans for the next few months include a weekend residential course, and the band’s inaugural performance at the National Youth Brass Band Championships at RNCM in April. Helen is also planning a short tour to the Isle of Man in July 2016.
The concert is sponsored by Chorley Building Society and tickets are now available for what is always one of the most popular annual events of the matinee concert series.
