Lewis Barton the most exciting brass talent in a generation, is the new Principal Cornet of Leyland Band

Lewis Barton appointed Principal Cornet of Leyland Band

Lewis has gained great acclaim as Principal Cornet of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. and Elland Silver Band. He is currently in his first year of studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

Lewis’ achievements to date are already an extensive list. He was awarded Best Soloist at the 2019 British Open Youth Championships. He followed that up in 2020 by winning the Harry Mortimer Solo Competition. In 2022 he judged the best soloist at both the Dr Martins Entertainment Competition and Blackpool’s Spring Festival Competition.

As well as his brass band achievements, Lewis has previously enjoyed studying at the Junior RNCM. He was also appointed the Principal Trumpet of the Halle Youth Orchestra in his final year there.

He is still heavily involved with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain as Principal Cornet. And he has recently become a valued member of their Ambassador Band which undertakes many exciting projects.

On his appointment Lewis commented:-
