Leyland Band return to the Brass In Concert Championships and present a fantastic set music by the Doyen of English light music, Stanley Black. ![]()
With special permission of Stanley’s son, Leyland will present four pieces by Black, three of which are brand new arrangements. Leyland’s BiC programme will open with Black’s bolero setting of the traditional song “What’s Now My Love” in the first of two band arrangements by John Doyle.
That will be followed by Leyland musical director Thomas Wyss’s transcription of Stanley Black’s clever setting of the well known “Malaguena” featuring some authentic Spanish effects!
From this new arrangement, the established arrangement of “People”, which was transcribed for Maurice Murphy and Leyland Band by Alan Catherall from Black’s arrangement of the popular Barbara Streisand song, will see John Doyle perform on trumpet.
The band’s finale will be John’s 2nd new arrangement, “Meadowland”. Stanley Black’s setting of the traditional Russian folk music.
Leyland will play 10th of 12 bands at the Sage, Gateshead.
