Leyland’s part in Rhythm Tree Fell Success

The sounds of 21st century Preston have been captured in a ground breaking recording by Preston Field Audio led by Carl Brown and which features Leyland Band lower brass ensemble – “Rhythm Tree Fell”

package imageMixing a theme and variations with recorded sounds from around the city and surrounding countryside, the distinctive concept recording has been released to critical acclaim by Concrete Tapes. Available as a digital download, and also on a limited edition cassette package – the first run of which sold out in 24 hours – the recording compiles four different variations on a theme by Carl Brown.

package imageIn the first half of the recoding, Leyland feature in the first hymn like variation, followed by settings for guitars and cymbals, a small choir  and a lovely solo piano interpretation. The second half takes the recorded sounds of the city placed alongside synths and samples creating what Carl describes as “short sonic stories of our lovely old city”.

Critic, Tristan Bath of The Quietus review site describes Rhythm Tree Fell as “frankly stunning”, and the Heskin Radiophonic review hails it as a “truly wondrous recording”.

package imageThe recording has also been recognised by the British Library Sound Archive (formerly the National Sound Archive) where a copy has been captured for preservation and access.
