Christmas all wrapped up

Leyland Band and Warrington Male Voice Choir team to bring you the perfect Christmas music combination of “Christmas Voices, Christmas Brass“.

Launched at the joint choir and band concert at a sell out Parr Hall (Warrington)in December 2017, Leyland and WMVC featured many items from the new recording which invokes all the festive fun of the annual “Christmas Voices, Christmas Brass” event. Band and choir will reunite for the 2018 concert on 22/12/2018.

Recorded in January 2017, the CD features solo band and choir items plus some festive joint pieces including the now obligatory concert encore “Schneewalzer” arranged by the late Goff Richards, who had long and successful associations with both the band and WMVC.

Christmas favourites and some lesser known pieces adorn the recording. Leroy Anderson’s “Christmas Festival Overture” and “Sleighride” are festive standards, and there is a strong popular music offering including “Mistletoe and Wine” and “When A Child Is Born“.

Leyland’s featured soloists are Principal Cornet Iain Culross with Peter Graham’s setting of “Away In A Manger“, John Doyle (flugel) in Thomas Wyss’ arrangement of the beautiful John Rutter piece “Pie Jesu“, and Principal Euphonium James McLeod with Peter Meechan’s air-varie arrangement of “Auld Lang Syne” .

Band and choir are delighted to bring you this easy listening festive recording. Christmas comes but once a year but the music of the season lives on and on.
