David began playing the tenor horn at the age of 7 at St Michael & St Johns primary school in Clitheroe, Lancashire. He joined his first band , Slaidburn Silver Band at the age of 8.
He spent the next 6 years here before moving on to North West rivals Blackburn & Darwen.
David clearly showed enormous potential and was accepted into the Royal Northern College of Music where he studied under 3 of the biggest names in banding in Gordon Higginbottom, Sandy Smith and Howard Snell between 1992-1996.
Whilst he studied at college , David was a member of the Black Dyke Band and was part of the ‘Grand Slam’ year of 1995 (European, Open & Nationals) under James Watson. He also performed with ‘A list stars’ including Elton John, Tori Amos and Peter Gabriel.
In 1999 he moved to YBS Band under Professor David King where the band was untouchable. They won 3 Open , 4 European (consecutively) and 1 English Masters title.
David took 11 years off playing before being enticed back into banding by Leyland and conductor Thomas Wyss. The band are delighted to have signed a player of David’s undoubted quality.
Outside of band , David has a 4 year old daughter called Abigail and works for the Home Office.
