The Solo Horn seat in memory of Dorothy Sayers

Rebecca began learning to play the tenor horn at the tender age of 5 playing in the Delph Primary School Brass Band and the local Delph Youth Band. Soon after, she became a member of the newly formed Rochdale Borough Youth Band in 1994 and continued through their various successes on solo horn until 2004. During this time the band held the title of Action Research Entertainment contest champions two years running and received four outstanding awards at the National Festival of Music for Youth. Rebecca was also a member of the Dobcross Youth Band before moving onto play in the first section with Blackburn and Darwen Band.

In 2003, Rebecca Joined the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and attended four courses playing solo horn under the leadership of Elgar Howarth, Howard Snell, Paul McGrath and Nicholas Childs. She went onto study at the Royal Northern College of music and in 2008 was delighted to achieve the Harry Mortimer brass student of the year award and qualify with a First Class Honours Degree. Rebecca completed her PGCE with the Manchester Metropolitan University and now works as a qualified music teacher with Blackpool and Trafford Music service.

Throughout her youth, Rebecca played at many prestigious events, such as the TUC and Labour Party conference and the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms.

Rebecca played solo horn for the Hepworth Band from 2004 to 2011 before joining Leyland on principal horn in March 2011.
