Christmas CD

Festive CD for Christmas in the can

Fresh on the heels of Leyland’s first concert of 2017, the band have been joined by our great friends, the Warrington Male Voice Choir to complete the recording of a festive CD.

Conductor Thomas Wyss and Leyland laid down the band’s solo tracks on the evening of 20th January, and the joint band and choir items were directed by the choir’s conductor, Russell Patterson the day after. The band featured three fantastic soloists. Principal Cornet Iain Culross recorded the beautiful Peter Graham arrangement of “Away In A  Manger“, and Principal Euphonium James Mcleod contrasted that with Peter Meechan’s air-varie arrangement of “Auld Lang Syne“. Flugel maestro John Doyle added Thomas Wyss’s gorgeous new setting of John Rutter’s “Pie Jesu“.

Festive CD by popular demand

The joint CD project has developed from the band and choir’s long standing association and “Christmas Voices, Christmas Brass” December concerts. And by popular demand the traditional encore at those concerts, the ubiquitous “Schneewalzer” is one of the three joint items included. The others being another Goff Richards band/choir arrangements “A Merry Little Christmas”, and the Johnny Mathis smash hit, “When A Child Is Born”.

The recording will be launched in October 2017.
