John started playing trombone at the age of 13 and his banding began as a member of Lancashire Youth Brass Band. John has since played for Poulton, Fodens and Freckleton bands, with whom he spent the last 10 years and is now delighted to have joined Leyland.

John also plays with Intrada Brass, a ten piece orchestral brass ensemble based in the North West and also played regularly with the Wigan Jazz Club Big Band, with whom he has toured Russia and Miami. In recent years he has performed alongside some of the worlds leading jazz musicians during their visits to the UK with personal highlights including James Morrison, Wayne Bergeron, Eric Marienthal and Gordon Goodwin.
John can often be heard playing in orchestras for musical theatre productions across the North West and has worked as musical director, on the production team for shows such as the Sound of Music and Sweeney Todd, which was nominated for best musical in 2012.

A graduate of Salford University, John went on to study for a PGCE, training as a music teacher. After spending a couple of years as a manager with a local authority music service, he moved back into the classroom and is currently Head of Music at Tottington High School, Bury. Other educational work includes his work as Trombone tutor for Lancashire Youth Brass Band.
