Leyland’s annual band awards were handed out last Sunday at the last in this year’s series of Matinee concerts at Chorley Town Hall:
DEREK MOTTERSHEAD MEMORIAL TROPHY:
In memory of Derek, a passionate patron of Leyland band. He was himself a brass player and former Leyland Motors employee. Derek was involved with many societies where he worked in a support role rather than “centre stage”. It is presented annually to a person the band feel has helped in a support role during the last 12 months. The award was presented this year by Derek’s widow Dorothy to the band’s contest secretary Darren Wood.
WILF RUTTER TROPHY:
This trophy is awarded to the band’s “Player of the Year”, and this year was awarded to the band’s solo baritone player, Ashley Jeffers, after some fantastic playing on both the concert and contest stage – including a prize winning performance at this year’s Brass in Concert Championships.
Congratulations Ashley and Darren!
